Abundance

We, as humans, tend to think in one of two ways: scarcity and abundance. For someone who thinks in terms of scarcity, there are never enough resources to satisfy their needs. They suffer from anxiety, lack of sleep, and are always stressed. They may blame others for their shortcomings or bad situations. They may even have an “us versus them” or “the haves versus the have-nots,” which can cause them to alienate themselves from people and resources that could help improve their situation.

Whatever they do have never seems to be enough. People that think this way can be workaholics or not do anything. They constantly worry about how they will make ends meet. Their insecurity can also lead to jealousy in relationships, both in the work place and in their personal lives.

In general, they have a negative outlook on life.

Keeping thoughts on abundance means that there will always be more of what we need. It means knowing that the universe is an endless well of energy and manifesting that force to create our own reality.

We will find ways to obtain those things to get us through life. Many times, for those who practice abundant thought, things always seem to fall into place. They land on their feet through every pitfall in life. This is not to say that they do not have their own struggles. They do, however, keep a positive outlook on life and have faith that things will ultimately work out. How does one achieve this? One way is to practice mantras. Since 2010, I have been repeating the following mantra: “I am enough. I have plenty of what I need. Abundance and prosperity flow through me and around me. I have a natural attraction to wealth in all its forms.”

I will repeat this mantra as many times to myself as I need to until I feel my own anxiety subside. I believe it. Thoughts really do become things. We are more powerful than we think, and I do my best to convey this attitude to my clients, so they can succeed in their goals.

One other great mantra to practice is “I am enough.” This declaration negates the feeling of not having enough. It can tune you into the abundance that the universe offers. You can incorporate this mantra into your breath. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose. Allow the air to fill your belly until you cannot fill it any more. As you exhale out through your mouth, recite the phrase, “I am enough.” Keep repeating this breath/mantra until you feel your heart rate slow down. Feel the tension come out of jaw, neck and shoulders. Allow the tension to dissipate until you feel your chest muscles relax. Feel the muscles in your arms melt. Visualize your muscles in your abdomen relax. Feel your legs relax all the way down through your feet. You will feel calmer and even more whole mentally.

Practice Gratitude

When I get really down, I start to repeat what I do have and am thankful for. It can be as simple as saying I am thankful for breathing. Then, I list what else I am thankful for. I am thankful for my career. I am thankful for my talent to improve the lives of others through fitness and wellness. I am thankful that I have food in my fridge, and so on. I practice this for as long as I need to. Within minutes, I can honestly say, I start to feel better. When you are thankful for what you already have, a calmness occurs within you.

Whenever I get together with my best friend, we always discuss all the good that has happened to us. We support each other’s endeavors. By accounting what we are thankful for, it always keeps us in a positive mood. Fortuitous things always happen when we are together, whether it be getting a great parking spot or saving money on our meal by using a coupon or gift card.

How do you start feeling thankful? Keep it simple. Be thankful you are alive, that you can breathe, that you have access to food and water, that you have a roof over your head, that you have a bed to sleep on, that you have clothes to wear, and that you found a free resource that can help improve your overall wellness (sorry, I could not resist).

Remember, there are other people on this planet who have it far worse than you. Feel lucky we live in a first-world country and have access to resources and freedoms that others could only dream of having.

So, go ahead and start creating that list of gratitude. Look at it any time you need help staying positive and calm during troubled times. It will help!
